A Strong Start at Captain Cook Primary School

We are a happy and friendly school nursery where all families are welcome and children thrive!

Our busy nursery is led by a qualified teacher, Mrs Russell, who is supported by caring and experienced staff.

Our aim in nursery is to nurture and develop each child as an individual while helping them become “Reception ready” for full time school. When children leave our nursery, they are happy, confident and used to a school setting and routines.

Joining our Nursery

You can apply to join our nursery at any time. Children can start our nursery after their 3rd birthday. We have 15 or 30 hour places available.

Families can access their universal entitlement to 15 hours nursery provision by selecting a morning or afternoon session when they apply.

Alternatively, we offer 30 hour places for families who are entitled to eligibility for working parents or those who wish to pay for the additional hours. Children who stay for 30 hours bring a packed lunch from home.

Our school offers competitively priced wraparound care for nursery children with our Breakfast and After School Club running from 7.30am until 6.00pm.

To ask about applying, the cost of additional hours, or to arrange a visit, please call school directly on:  01642 315254 or email: admin@captaincookprimary.co.uk

To apply for our nursery,  please complete an application form. We will send you confirmation once we have received it.

What happens next?

Once we have received you application form we will send you confirmation.

  • You will be sent a start date for your child depending on their age and our availability in nursery.
  • Our nursery teacher will contact you to arrange a visit for you and your child a week or two before their start date. At this visit your child will get the opportunity to explore our nursery, meet the staff and other children while you chat with the teacher and fill in some key information.
  • We have a flexible approach to each child’s start to nursery. We will be led by you and your child. Some children settle in very quickly and others may require a flexible approach which the teacher will talk with you about at your visit.
  • We use an app called Class Dojo to keep you informed and share pictures of your child. We will set you up with a Class Dojo account when your child starts nursery.
